Video Board Operator - USC - Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena (Los Angeles, Ca)

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum invites applications for the position of Operations Intern. We are seeking hard working, self-motivated, goal oriented individuals for the upcoming 2015 calendar year. The internship requires a good amount of dedication throughout the year.  The Coliseum and Sports Arena Internship program will provide a great opportunity for interns looking to immerse themselves in a full service sports and entertainment venue. 

Home to the University of Southern California Trojans football team, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum & Sports Arena combines the traditional and the modern into a premier athletic environment and events venue. Designated as a national and state historical Landmark in 1984, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum boasts a long and noted past. Additionally, recognized as one of the most famous sports monuments in America today, the fabled history of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum spans nine decades and is the only facility in the world to have hosted two Olympiads, two Super Bowls, and a World Series.

This position serves to operate and maintain the video control room as well as video and scoreboard operation of all Coliseum video boards for pre/during/post events as scheduled/necessary. This position will be delivering live feeds, graphics, and other technical data to all video boards. Will be responsible for properly powering on, monitoring quality of equipment, equipment functionality, and properly powering down/storing video equipment. Position will work closely with production to follow event timelines, production scripts, and sponsorship activations. Assist with the execution of both large and small scale events utilizing the video boards of the Coliseum. During athletic competitions, this position will also assist with the management of the scoreboards, scoring and timekeeping. 

Job Accountabilities

  • Responsible for safely powering on three Coliseum video boards as well as time clocks and scoreboard. Will also be accountable for running production through these boards as well as safely powering down and storing all event related gear/equipment.
  • Properly displaying necessary video content (live video feeds, advertisements, and graphics) during events.
  • Following and executing event timelines for delivery, production notes, and scripts as they relate to the videoboards.
  • Assist with troubleshooting for video software and hardware including Venus7000, Daktronics, Click Effects, and CrossFire
  • Maintain and promote a clean and safe work place designed to protect sensitive video and technical equipment from damage as well as provide a quality work space within the control room.
  • Work with promoters/business partners/broadcast partners/others to ensure the delivery of quality video board content and customer experience.
  • Communication of any issues/outages/failures/deviations from Standard Operating Procedures to proper Coliseum Management staff.

Position specific Job Qualifications:

  • High School diploma and 2 years of industry relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Technology, or other related fields and a year of industry relevant experience.
  • Basic understanding of video equipment and operation. Experience with video boards/scoreboards preferred.
  • Experience in the setup, execution, and teardown of events is preferred.
  • Ability to lift at least 50lbs.
  • Strong, professional communication skills. Ability to function in a fast paced environment.
  • Basic computer knowledge (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, prioritize and meet strict deadlines.

Additional Information pertinent to this specific position:

  • This job will require a flexible schedule. May have to work weekends, evenings and/or holidays.
  • Understand both verbal and written instructions in English
  • Ability to work under limited supervision
  • Pay Rate: $14-$16/hour based on experience
