USC Auxiliary Services is seeking a Grounds Assistant to join its Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum &Sports Arena team.

Home to the University of Southern California Trojans football team, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum & Sports Arena combines the traditional and the modern into a premier athletic environment and events venue. Designated as a national and state historical Landmark in 1984, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum boasts a long and noted past. Additionally, recognized as one of the most famous sports monuments in America today, the fabled history of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum spans nine decades and is the only facility in the world to have hosted two Olympiads, two Super Bowls, and a World Series.

This position provides general operations and event services for the Coliseum and Sports Arena facilities including (but not limited to) assisting with public/private events, maintenance, changeover, grounds keeping, and IT services. The Operations Assistant is responsible for assisting with the operation, maintenance, and upkeep of the Coliseum and Sports Arena during scheduled events such as USC Football games, concerts, filmings, rehearsals, and other events. This position works independently and assists with several different departments to execute daily facility tasks as well as preventative maintenance.

Job Accountabilities:

. Assists Coliseum Field and Grounds staff with field maintenance including but not limited to mowing, weed wiping, planting, overseeding, topdressing, field painting, fertilizing, field protection, and field set ups/tear downs for athletic events. Manages the weeding of Coliseum seating bowl during peak event periods.

. Assists Coliseum and Sports Arena Changeover staff with event set ups and tear downs including setting/tearing tables, chairs, barricade, staging, seating risers, coffin risers, podiums, pipe and drape, and banners/event/facility signage. Assist event staff with event coverage of various Coliseum and Sports Arena events.

. Assists Coliseum and Sports Arena maintenance staff with projects including minor carpentry, painting, seat replacement, ceiling tile replacement/cutting, minor plumbing repairs and preventative maintenance, small construction projects, HVAC filter changes and preventative maintenance, vacuum and machine maintenance, and various building cleanliness tasks.

. Assists Coliseum and Sports Arena IT Department with tasks including phone and internet line drops, event IT set ups and tear downs, wireless access point installation, TV installation/operation/storage, A/V tasks including speakers and microphones, scoreboard operation, network and office PC troubleshooting, email set ups.

. Works with Coliseum Electrical staff on minor electrical tasks including light bulb replacement, conduit bending and installation, trench digging, ballast replacement, electrical troubleshooting, and receptacle cover plate installation.

. Other duties as assigned. This position will work weekends, evenings and/or holidays as dictated by the event schedule of the facilities.

USC is seeking an experienced Change Over and Event Staff Crewman for the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena.*

This position serves as facility operations representative for pre/during/and post events as necessary. Organizes and orchestrates flow of warehouse and related equipment inventory. Serves as an event/changeover staff who will move, pickup, deliver, and/or install equipment, furniture, and other materials as assigned/dictated by the event. Hang banners, signage, and drapery as needed. Assists with facility and event projects. Execute all event set-up and break-down based on event schedule. Assists with the execution of large scale and smaller facility events including athletic competitions, concerts, and community events. Assists with crowd management, ensures public safety, and demonstrates first class customer service. Responsible for inventory and disbursement small facility/event needs such as lighting, barricades, tables and chairs, and other event materials.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for moving, picking up, and/or delivering equipment, supplies, and other materials related to events. Installs furniture and objects such as framed art on walls. Delivers and installs rental equipment.
  • Facilitates warehouse equipment movement and event setup/teardown.
  • Assists with supervising the work of temporary labor staff
  • Help with the construction of event staging, seating risers, event risers, and other event materials. 
  • Repairs custom equipment as needed. Serves as facility contact to adjust setups, monitor and deliver on-demand event changes and ensure facility is properly set for events.
  • Facilitates small facility improvement projects including minor carpentry, painting, landscaping, lighting, mechanical, and/or plumbing as dictated by event load.
  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting patrons in any way possible and ensuring they have a great experience at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma and 1 year of industry relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Event Management, or other related fields and a year of industry relevant experience.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of large venue, facility, or public assembly building operations and maintenance.
  • Experience in the setup, execution, and teardown of events is preferred.
  • Ability to lift at least 50lbs.
  • Some experience in the operation of light duty machinery (forklift, scissor lift, pallet jacks) is preferred.
  • Strong, professional communication skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, prioritize and meet strict deadlines.

  • This job will require a flexible schedule. May have to work weekends, evenings and/or holidays.
  • Understand both verbal and written instructions in English
  • Ability to work under limited supervision
  • Pay Rate: $13-$15/hour based on experience
