USC is seeking an experienced Operations Changeover Crewman for the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena.*

Home to the University of Southern California Trojans football team, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum & Sports Arena combines the traditional and the modern into a premier athletic environment and events venue. Designated as a national and state historical Landmark in 1984, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum boasts a long and noted past. Additionally, recognized as one of the most famous sports monuments in America today, the fabled history of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum spans seven decades and is the only facility in the world to have hosted two Olympiads, two Super Bowls, and a World Series.

This position serves as facility operations representative for pre/during/and post events as necessary. Organizes and orchestrates flow of warehouse and related equipment inventory. Serves as an event/changeover staff who will move, pickup, deliver, and/or install equipment, furniture, and other materials as assigned/dictated by the event. Hang banners, signage, and drapery as needed. Assists with facility and event projects. Execute all event set-up and break-down based on event schedule. Assists with the execution of large scale and smaller facility events including athletic competitions, concerts, and community events. Assists with crowd management, ensures public safety, and demonstrates first class customer service. Responsible for inventory and disbursement small facility/event needs such as lighting, barricades, tables and chairs, and other event materials.

Job Accountabilities

  • Responsible for moving, picking up, and/or delivering equipment, supplies, and other materials related to events. Installs furniture and objects such as framed art on walls. Delivers and installs rental equipment.
  • Facilitates warehouse equipment movement and event setup/teardown.
  • Assists with supervising the work of temporary labor staff
  • Help with the construction of event staging, seating risers, event risers, and other event materials. 
  • Repairs custom equipment as needed. Serves as facility contact to adjust setups, monitor and deliver on-demand event changes and ensure facility is properly set for events.
  • Facilitates small facility improvement projects including minor carpentry, painting, landscaping, lighting, mechanical, and/or plumbing as dictated by event load.
  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting patrons in any way possible and ensuring they have a great experience at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena.

Position specific Job Qualifications:

  • High School diploma and 1 year of industry relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Event Management, or other related fields and a year of industry relevant experience.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of large venue, facility, or public assembly building operations and maintenance.
  • Experience in the setup, execution, and teardown of events is preferred.
  • Ability to lift at least 50lbs.
  • Some experience in the operation of light duty machinery (forklift, scissor lift, pallet jacks) is preferred.
  • Strong, professional communication skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, prioritize and meet strict deadlines.

Additional Information pertinent to this specific position:

  • This job will require a flexible schedule. May have to work weekends, evenings and/or holidays.
  • Understand both verbal and written instructions in English
  •  Ability to work under limited supervision

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum invites applications for the position of Operations Intern. We are seeking hard working, self-motivated, goal oriented individuals for the upcoming 2015 calendar year. The internship requires a good amount of dedication throughout the year.  The Coliseum and Sports Arena Internship program will provide a great opportunity for interns looking to immerse themselves in a full service sports and entertainment venue.

We are looking for dedicated individuals who are enthusiastic and possess a strong ability to handle day-to-day operational tasks and create a positive environment for our patrons and staff.  Organizes and orchestrates flow of warehouse and related equipment inventory. Responsible for maintaining up-to-date administrative documents, such as allocation sheets, task lists, nightly reports, event binders, etc. Serves as a supervisor to temporary/hours event/changeover staff who will move, pickup, deliver, and/or install equipment, furniture, and other materials as assigned/dictated by the event. Assist in executing event set-up and break-down based on event schedule. Assists with facility projects including minor custodial, painting, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical. Assists with the execution of large scale and smaller facility events including athletic competitions, concerts, and community events. Helps with crowd management, ensures public safety, and demonstrates first class customer service. Responsible for inventory and disbursement small facility/event needs such as lighting, barricades, tables and chairs, and other event materials.

Job Accountabilities

  • Shadow different areas of the operations department during events and assist with event-related activities.
  • Responsible for maintaining clear and precise reports on events activities and tracking event assets.  
  • Help with the construction of event staging, seating risers, event risers, and other event materials.  
  • Responsible for assisting in ensuring the stadium and arena are set for events and maintain recognition as a “world class” venue.
  • Facilitates small facility improvement projects including minor carpentry, painting, landscaping, lighting, mechanical, and/or plumbing as dictated by event load.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as keeping up-to-date entries in our nightly report, hourly allocation sheet, daily tasks list, event asset tracking list, word orders, SOP’s, key lists, binders, event reports, etc.
  • Perform all other duties assigned. Duties can include preparation of rehearsal space, management of temporary labor, overseeing cleaning staff to ensure stadium cleanliness, organization and execution of events, and assisting with stadium preventative maintenance.

Position specific Job Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate (preferably a junior or senior) or graduate students attending an accredited university.
  • Interested in gaining a working knowledge of large venue, facility, or public assembly building operations and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Publisher).
  • Experience in working in a fast-paced environment and remaining customer service oriented and professional.
  • Superior oral communication and writing skills.
  • Bilingual preferred (Enlgish/Spanish)

Additional Information pertinent to this specific position:

  • Schedule will include nights and weekends as dictated by events held in the facilities.
  • Ability to lift at least 50lbs is preferred.
  • Term: 1000 hours
    • Course credit can be granted if currently enrolled at an accredited university
